MediaTemple crashes, burns, and announces new product

Well there’s a lot to say about a service provider who goes out of their way to serve the little guys.

Last week’s post was more of a rant, but it had many factual statements. I was furious that I couldn’t obtain the uptime that I needed, but I didn’t know the history behind it.

You see, Media Temple’s shared hosting was more of a beta than anything else. I signed up soon after they officially launched the service, but I had no idea what I was getting myself into. It’s only after receiving a email from the CEO that I realized what was going on.

Does this mean I will forgive them for screwing up so badly? No! Of course not! But I won’t make the same mistake twice.

Media Temple will launch a new product, called (cs), cluster-server. This will act as a replacement for their obviously faulty (gs) platform. It will address a series of issues that most (gs) admins would rather not have. Unfortunately it’s way too late to START thinking about reliability.

Their services are inexpensive, their control panel looks sweet, and they have a blog with RSS… but they can’t seem to do the one thing they are paid to do: provide reliable hosting.

I really do hope their new service crushes all services out there, but it’s not something I can/want to wait for, and my clients neither. I’ll take the 2 month-credit to enable a smooth transition away from them.
