Tracking your future employers
As mentioned in my previous post, I have decided to throw myself back into the job market. Fortunately I can afford to take my time and properly choose the places I would like to work.
I found a few cool places, including a REALLY interesting startup here in Montreal. There are many good reasons to work in a startup as explained by Ben Yoskovitz, Dharmesh Shah and Paul Graham.
On my quest to prove my worthiness (and discover theirs), I had an idea: Why not track my future employers with the use of my website statistics (provided by StatCounter)? I know it sounds crazy but it’s much better than emailing a PDF and *hoping* that someone reads it. I work on the web, it’s my specialty, so why not use it to my advantage, right?
Yesterday I spent a good part of the day rebuilding my website and adding background information that might be of interest to future employers. I chose to email one prospect per day, in order to see if they are interested, and you know what? It worked!
To begin, I emailed my URL at 1:30am knowing all too well that my future employers (from Canada) would visit first thing in the morning.
This was confirmed when I saw this morning’s statistics:
A visitor from Canada spent 7 minutes browsing my website, portfolio, resume and blog.
I know this might seem scary for some, especially for an employer looking to HIRE me, but I do not have any bad intentions.
What I really want to know is what’s so interesting about my hosting page? Is it the pink text? hahaha. Either way, I’m hoping to receive a response from them soon.
