Fear, procrastination, and instant gratification
During the last few months, I’ve worked incredibly hard on the first web-based project for Comma Induced.
While my partnership with Nerd Studio has gone uphill since day one, my software development has gone completely downhill. I can count on my fingers the amount of code (for my project) I’ve written in the last 4 weeks.
Unfortunately, I’ve been afflicted by fear and procrastination. As Tony mentioned in one of his posts, fear and procrastination are not viable reasons to “quit” or “move on”.
His article really got me thinking, about my situation, my reason(s) to “move on”, and my goals for the future. I realized I will be better off going through with my plans and simply riding over the “speed bump”.
I initially thought of moving on to a different project, one which seemed like a lot more fun. What I forgot was that I had this exact same energy a few months ago. It’s like I keep searching for some kind of instant gratification. A new idea pops into my head and then it’s “stop the presses!“. I guess being an ENTP aquarius doesn’t help my situation ;)
My project still interests me and I still see an huge potential to solve specific problems for IT people. I just needed a good kick in the butt to get me going again. The effect of a shot of espresso.
I’ve returned to working hard on this project, and you should expect to see some screenshots soon. More hints will be revealed within the upcoming weeks. Hopefully, I won’t let fear or procrastination get in my way anymore.
How are your projects coming along? As usual, you’re more than welcome to post your comments below.

Looking forward to seeing the first screenshots. You will find that getting those out and soliciting feedback will be great infusions of instant gratification.

Kick it in the butt, Alex. I think you’ll make it happen.
My first project, Scrawlers, is online in extreme getting-real alpha mode. It was good to get it online and show it to a few people. We’re learning lot about what is most important, which will save us time we would have lost if we were polishing the turd in secret.
Ultimately, it was a service that I very much wanted to use, so it’s been quite fun to work on. I don’t have expectations of the service making me any sort of money to speak of, though. At best it could become a nice loss-leader.

Thanks guys!
I’ll let you know when stuff is ready to be tested.
As for Scrawlers, I think it’s an awesome idea and seems like a lot of fun! with tons of potential!

I never said thanks for the props, Alex. So … Thanks!
Now I just need you to stop over and write. I’m sure you have some excellent super-short fiction in you. :)
